Superlative. Exceeded every expectation. Best board I've ever owned - you should probably buy one.
It's taken me a while to write this because I've been just so impressed it's been hard to put into words. I've clocked 2000 trouble free kms in 2 months on my ER and think now is a good time. I'm glazing it a bit because I really, really, REALLY like it - but I'm going to try to be as balanced and thorough as possible. Long story short, I'm blown away with every single aspect of this board. It's made my commutes faster and safer, has been a joy for exploring the city and having fun on, zero problems, and is just top notch in every regard. It's what I've ALWAYS wanted in an esk8. So, SO happy I bought it.
I wanted a board I could keep up with moderate speed traffic on, a board with range to get all the way across my giant city and explore without worrying about range, a board I could trust. It's more than delivered on every count. In these two months, I've honestly had some peak life experiences on this board, it's been that good.
Pros:
- Great acceleration, easily out accelerates cars off stop lights. Near motorcycle acceleration from a stop, good rolling punch. I've taken it to 65km/hr.
- Stability. Even going over torn up roads at speed, it's very confidence inspiring. With my current bushings, feels rock solid until near 60km/hr while it's still carvable and nimble.
- Amazing brakes, can confidently go down even the steepest hills without worry that brakes won't be able to handle it, and great in traffic.
- Unbeatable value for specs/quality.
- Range, I've been getting 50km+ on the ER at ~120kg, riding hard on pneumatics in extremely hilly terrain.
- Stellar and flawless build quality.
- Looks SO cool.
- Quieter than other gear drives I've used, seems really solid.
- Customer Support - quick to respond, excellent English, really knows the product and sport, passionate and cares.
- Tires (the ER tires say they are 'racing only' but they work great on rough and broken road surfaces, grass, light moisture - they are amazing grippy general city tires). At 2000kms original tires are still going strong. Haven't had a flat yet.
- Remote isn't fancy, but feels premium with aluminum wheel and is excellent. Zero micro-disconnects so far.
- Genius wheel design allows changing tires with no tools.
- Really like the top mounted charging port, top mounted ESC is clever and unobtrusive.
- Overall ride feel and comfort. Perhaps I liked the feel of my much loved Carbon Zeus Pro a tiny, tiny bit more, but the advantages this has over that are too numerous to count, and...well, my Zeus had frequent issues and is now broken, while this is still riding like new. No other board I've owned even compares in terms of overall feel.
Cons:
- Bushings it ships with are too hard to really be usable; budget another $20 for different bushings. Something like 99a(stock)/95a rear, 92a/90a front (barrels, and just a guess as I experimented from a bag of unmarked bushings I had until I was happy). Of course, dialing in the bushings are something you should do on every board, as the right setup depends on your weight and preference.
- No VESC fine tuning - acceleration/braking curves are perfect for me though.
- No built in lights. I far prefer high end flashlights/head lamps/helmet mounted LED blinkers, find low set board mounted headlights useless. I'm happy they put money into huge battery instead of things like this or VESC.
- Heavy - STRONGLY recommend buying the carry handle. Carts much better upside down.
- Doesn't have any sort of 'trick' truck system like channels etc. The TKPs it has are excellent, though.
- White motors discolor quickly.
- No official IP waterproof rating. However, they told me in chat that it does have very good water ingress protection (and I've ridden in the rain several times). But they officially advise against it and didn't want to IP certify/guarantee it. Note the ESC being on top naturally protects it from puddle splashes.
- Wide turn radius
Note that I had to stretch to write these cons; none are really flaws, just design decisions.
All in all, honestly it's a 10/10. If you're thinking of buying a longboard style esk8, you should look hard at this board, and it should probably be the one you go with. If you go cheaper, you'll likely be disappointed and might have to pay more for parts/maintenance (although other cheaper Linnpowers like the EVO MK-1 look awesome as well). You probably won't get a substantially better experience spending a lot more. This is the sweet spot, sets a new standard in every way, and should be on everyone's shortlist.
Note I haven't really done any off road on it or any jumping; just street riding, although often on really torn up streets.
